It's a rainy day in March, and the Protectas interview team is heading to Marvinpac's packaging facility at Châtel-Saint-Denis (canton of Fribourg). The aim of our visit: a meeting with CEO Ludovic Hericher to learn a little more about his firm's collaboration with Protectas. Portrait of a dynamic Swiss enterprise.
Marvinpac SA has relocated its company premises twice in twelve years: first, from Forel (canton of Vaud) to Bussigny in the same canton; and then again in June 2013, when it moved from Bussigny into its own building at Châtel-Saint-Denis (canton of Fribourg), its current location. These premises, located alongside the E27 motorway, are equipped with cutting-edge production facilities. "When we were looking for a site, we insisted on a location close to the motorway and within a 40 km radius of Lausanne so that our staff – as well as our suppliers and customers – could easily reach us," Ludovic Hericher explains.
Marvinpac adopted extremely strict environmental standards for the construction of its new production facility. The Minergie-compliant building is equipped with a self-sufficient energy supply for operational cooling and heating thanks to 17 geothermal probes installed at a depth of 350 metres. The roof of the company's building is covered in solar panels that generate all the electricity needed to supply its entire production. But alongside stringent environmental and production criteria, the "future" factor played an equally crucial part in planning the facility, as Ludovic Hericher explains: "We designed the new building so that we can expand our production area by 30% in very little time if we need extra capacity."
Two key reasons prompted Ludovic Hericher to choose Protectas as his partner for security concerns : "First and foremost, we selected Protectas because we were finding that our own security system was too inflexible and over-complicated. Thanks to its wide range of security solutions, Protectas gives us all the flexibility and independence we need – so their services are a perfect fit for the dynamic context in which we are developing."
But Protectas' services have also enabled Marvinpac SA to cut its security costs and gain a critical edge over its competitors – thanks to the new Remote Video Solutions (RVS) security concept: "When customers are considering working with us, the security aspect is one of their key selection criteria. Their security requirements are sometimes even more rigorous than the market standards, which are already very strict," Ludovic Hericher adds.
With the help of RVS technology, Marvinpac SA was able to clear up an act of vandalism. Ludovic Hericher recalls an event that shows how RVS technology benefits his company: "Full video monitoring of our parking facility made it possible for us to track an act of vandalism back to its origin, so we were able to clear the incident up. Our premises now enjoy maximum security thanks to cameras positioned at strategic points all over the site," he explains. The CEO is equally satisfied with Protectas' direct and efficient communication style: "We can contact Protectas whenever we need them, even at the last minute – for instance, I might decide on the spur of the moment that I'll go to my office at the weekend, so I'll need access authorisation." We asked what developments Marvinpac SA envisages as regards security in the future. Ludovic Hericher's reply: "Our objective will be to continue stepping up our level of security – both during and outside of our opening hours. And in addition to that, we shall aim to maintain straightforward, flexible management so that we can keep our competitive edge."
