A demanding daily reality for security agents

Security in asylum centers is a daily challenge that requires not only vigilance but also great adaptability and humanity from security officers. These facilities host people often in deep distress, facing complex psychological and social situations. In this context, the role of security staff goes far beyond surveillance: they are first responders, able to intervene quickly and effectively to prevent tragedies and ensure everyone’s safety.

An exemplary intervention in a critical situation

A recent intervention perfectly illustrated the importance of attentive presence and coordinated action. A security officer, whom we will call Victor* to protect his anonymity, demonstrated remarkable judgment during a particularly delicate emergency.

An asylum seeker attempted to take his own life by tying a scarf to a metal barrier at the entrance of the center. Victor intervened quickly and calmly, grabbing the man around the waist and restraining him before he could cause irreparable harm.

This life-saving action was only possible thanks to excellent teamwork. Victor and four colleagues managed to untie the scarf and bring the man to safety. Emergency services were alerted immediately, allowing the 144 medical team to provide rapid care and the necessary psychological support.

The importance of training and teamwork

This testimony highlights the crucial importance of human security in such centers, where prevention and reactivity can mean the difference between life and death. It also underlines the value of solid teamwork, as well as continuous training and preparation for officers working daily in these sensitive environments.
