Who are you in a few words?
My name is Peter Etter, I’m 53 years old and was born in Winterthur. I now live with my wife Regula in beautiful Appenzell. We have two grown-up children, a son-in-law, and two wonderful grandchildren who bring us so much joy.
What most people don’t know: I’ve been a Samaritan for 28 years and until last year, I served as a Firefighter-Samaritan, an experience that deeply shaped my commitment to safety and helping others.
What motivated you to work at Protectas?
I was drawn by the combination of exciting and meaningful tasks. Security is not just a job; it’s a responsibility towards people and society.
On top of that, the incredible team spirit at Protectas, the feeling of working together for an important goal ,motivates me every single day.
Can you tell us about your beginnings at Protectas?
When I joined Protectas 12 years ago, the company’s vision immediately convinced me: contributing, together with over 370,000 colleagues worldwide, to making the world a safer place.
The motto “We help make your world a safer place” is not just a slogan ,it’s a daily source of inspiration.
What are your current responsibilities?
I work at the Rapperswil office and oversee several areas.
My tasks are very diverse, from coordinating with clients to supporting internal teams.
Every day brings new challenges, and that’s what makes my job so exciting.
What do you like about your job?
The variety! No two days are the same. I particularly enjoy working with different stakeholders and finding solutions that work for everyone.
Most of all, I love contributing to creating safety and trust.
What has been your biggest challenge and how do you handle it?
The biggest challenge is when different stakeholders have conflicting needs. For example, when Protectas’ interests and the client’s interests don’t align.
In those situations, it’s crucial to stay calm, listen, understand all perspectives, and work towards a win-win solution. It takes patience, communication, and sometimes creativity.
Which value resonates most with you and why? (Integrity, Vigilance, Helpfulness)
Definitely helpfulness. For me, it’s the foundation of our profession. Integrity and vigilance are essential, but helpfulness makes the difference, it shows that we’re not just following rules, we’re truly there for people.
What advice would you give to women who want to work in security?
I’ve often worked with women, especially in the field of security, and I have great respect for them. They are an incredible asset to our teams.
No matter their size or strength, women often show impressive determination and resilience.
My advice: believe in yourself and go full speed ahead! Your perspective and skills are invaluable in this industry.
