Patrícia Oliveira Vila Nova, Administrative Officer, Zurich

Who are you in a few words?
My name is Patrícia. I am a positive person, full of energy, and always open to new challenges. I enjoy working creatively, with people, and in nature.
I particularly enjoy dogs, motorcycles and cars, singing, dancing, and sunny days – summer is clearly my favorite season.
What motivated you to work at Protectas?
Before Protectas, I had several jobs with long consecutive workdays, without feeling that I was reaching my full potential. I wanted to grow professionally and invest in a long-term career.
The opportunity to work in English, my interest in rules and organization, real growth opportunities, financial stability, and the chance to contribute my strengths convinced me to join Protectas.
Can you tell us about your beginnings at Protectas?
I started in March 2024 as a Datacenter Screening Officer. This period required technical and cultural adaptation in a predominantly male environment. Thanks to my openness, communication skills, and team orientation, my integration was very positive.
After three months, I was promoted to Shift Security Supervisor, taking responsibility for shift planning, weekends, escalations, and reporting.
Seven months later, I was promoted to Site Lead, in recognition of my consistent performance, proactive attitude, and dedication to a strong, well-coordinated team.
What are you responsible for now?
I currently work as an Administrative Officer, supporting operations and teams across six datacenters in Switzerland. My responsibilities include administrative processes, documentation, reporting, and SOPs.
My goal is to ensure structure, clarity, and reliable support in daily operations. I see myself as a trusted point of contact, helping operations run efficiently and smoothly.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I particularly enjoy that no day is the same – different sites, new challenges, and continuous learning opportunities. It motivates me to support others, inspire, and find solutions together.
A positive work environment is very important to me: high-quality standards, open communication, and mutual respect.
Since we spend long hours together, respect, trust, and a balance of professionalism and positivity are crucial for team success.
What is your biggest challenge and how do you handle it?
My biggest challenge is balancing work and personal life. Security is a 24/7 service, and in exceptional situations, it is important to support the team outside regular hours.
I act responsibly but also ensure I take breaks. I greatly appreciate having a manager who supports this balance and reminds me of the importance of wellbeing for sustainable performance.
Which value resonates most with you and why? (Integrity, Vigilance, Helpfulness)
I practice all three values daily, but integrity is the one that defines me most. In security, it is crucial to do what is right even under pressure: act honestly, follow rules and SOPs, be respectful, and take responsibility.
Integrity means telling the truth, correcting mistakes, and remaining consistent in every situation.
How do you experience being a woman in your job?
Encouraging more women to join this field is very important to me. Even though the female share in my team is still small, our contribution is significant.
We gain confidence, bring structure, and strengthen team cohesion. Mutual support creates a balanced and positive work environment.
Advice for women who want to work in security?
Do not be intimidated. Make decisions based on facts, not emotions. Knowledge provides security and strength.
If something negative happens, do not give up – learn to filter, seek support, and report incidents correctly. And if something serious occurs, do not stay silent.
Your voice can also support another woman who may not yet dare. Support other women on their journey.
