Kenny Arroyo-Rodriguez, Area Manager, Geneva
Who are you in a few words?
My name is Kenny Arroyo-Rodriguez, I’m 33 years old, married, and father to a 14-month-old son named Mateo. I’m Franco-Swiss with Spanish roots and have been working at Protectas for six years.
What motivated you to work at Protectas?
I was looking to change careers and was drawn to Protectas’ reputation for professionalism and reliability—especially since a family member was already working there. I wanted to join a company that values both safety and people, and that offers real career development opportunities.
Can you tell us about your beginnings at Protectas?
I started as a security officer and then became assistant group leader. The training and support I received helped me integrate quickly. I found a close-knit team in the diplomatic unit and a work environment where I felt supported from day one.
What are your current responsibilities?
I’m now Area Manager in the diplomatic department, specifically overseeing the Permanent Mission of Singapore in Geneva.
I manage a team of 8 agents, operating 24/7, 365 days a year. My role is to ensure the safety of diplomats, ambassadors, and property, while also serving as a point of contact for my team and our clients.
I also support external missions and events when needed.
What do you like about your job?
I love team management—mentoring, training, and ensuring my team has everything they need to succeed. I also enjoy planning and organizing, which helps me anticipate challenges and keep operations running smoothly.
Having responsibilities motivates me because I know my work directly contributes to the safety of people, sites, and ultimately our company.
The variety of the job keeps it engaging—no two days are the same.
What has been your biggest challenge and how do you handle it?
Staying calm under pressure is key in our field. I manage this by staying focused, following procedures, and maintaining clear communication with my team and stakeholders. It’s a core skill for any security professional and leader—we must lead by example.
Which value resonates most with you and why? (Integrity, Vigilance, Helpfulness)
Vigilance stands out — it’s essential in our work. Being observant and proactive helps prevent incidents before they happen.
Integrity is also crucial, especially in what we pass on to younger agents. Respecting all cultures, ranks, and individuals is fundamental.
Being honest means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, treating everyone fairly, and staying professional at all times.
What advice would you give to women who want to work in security?
Go for it! This field offers real opportunities, and women have a vital role to play.
Believe in your potential, get proper training, and take the leap. Security benefits from diverse profiles, and women bring valuable qualities—like tact, calmness, and emotional intelligence—that enrich our teams.
