Carina Bechert, building security specialist, Zurich
Who are you in a few words?
My name is Carina Bechert, I’m 50 years old for a few more months, and I’m originally from Rosenheim, Bavaria. Few people know this, but I love spending time in nature. For me, it’s a great way to recharge and find balance after sometimes intense workdays.
What motivated you to work at Protectas?
What motivated me most to join Protectas is the great responsibility this job entails. I like feeling useful and knowing that my work directly contributes to the safety of people and buildings.
Can you tell us about your start at Protectas?
After the company I previously worked for lost its main client, I wanted to put my experience to the service of the company that took over. That’s how I joined Protectas, with the desire to continue working in a field I’m passionate about, where I can truly make a difference.
What are your current responsibilities?
Today, I’m responsible for building security, access control, and, when necessary, initiating emergency service interventions. This position requires constant vigilance and the ability to react quickly at any moment.
What do you like about your job?
What I like most is exactly this great responsibility. Knowing that my decisions and quick reactions have a direct impact motivates me every day to give my best.
What has been your biggest challenge and how do you handle it?
My biggest challenge is that no two days are ever the same. Even after six years in this job, every new situation remains a challenge to face. I rely on my experience and on my ability to stay calm and focused, no matter the circumstances.
Which value resonates most with you and why? (Integrity, Vigilance, Helpfulness)
All Protectas values are important, but the one that resonates most with me is helpfulness. Helping vulnerable people is essential to me and gives real meaning to my work.
How do you feel about being a woman in this job?
I feel very comfortable being a woman in this field. Of course, when physical strength is required, male colleagues are always ready to help. But most of the time, we women manage perfectly well on our own – we are definitely not weak, quite the opposite!
What advice would you give to women who want to work in security?
I would advise them to always pay attention to their own safety and remain aware of their surroundings. This job is demanding but also exciting and rewarding. With determination and professionalism, there’s no reason not to succeed.
