Mission Protectas: Stefano Maino

Who are you in a few words? 

My name is Stefano Maino, I’m 26 years old, and I have been working at Protectas SA since January 2023. I’m passionate about technology, studying management IT, and in my free time I practice mountain sports and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. 

What motivated you to join Protectas? 

After a year of university in economics, I realized that path wasn’t for me. Since I already had permission to work as a security agent in Ticino, I decided to apply to Protectas, a company I got to know through examiner Diego Girardelli. 

Can you tell us about your beginnings at Protectas? 

I started as an auxiliary agent, mainly performing lodge services, rounds, and partly acting as a client point of contact. After about nine months in Ticino, I had the opportunity to move to Zurich to work as a security agent in a data center. Since May 2024, I am back in Ticino, where I work today as an OSE (Operational Service Expert). 

What are your responsibilities today? 

I mainly manage the operational tools that allow agents to perform their work accurately and efficiently. I also support colleagues in various areas as needed to ensure everything runs smoothly. 

What do you enjoy most about your job? 

I really enjoy the variety. In Ticino, we are a growing team, which allows me to face challenges beyond my main role. It is very rewarding because I like learning new things. 

What is your biggest challenge and how do you handle it? 

My biggest challenge right now is balancing work and school. However, I know I can always rely on the support of the Ticino team and my colleagues in the office, who are ready to help whenever I need it. 

Which value speaks to you the most and why? 

Integrity. I consider myself a responsible and honest person, and I believe integrity is a fundamental value that everyone should cultivate. 

What advice would you give to women who want to work in the security sector? 

First and foremost, be yourself. It’s a sector where gender doesn’t matter: what really counts is professionalism, reliability, and the desire to ensure the safety of others. A motivated woman can bring as much value to the team as a man.
